MLWA Water Quality and Clean Up Projects

The MLWA works with the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation and the NYS Federation of Lakes Association to conduct annual water sampling of Mirror Lake.

The entire CSLAP report for 2007 is available here (requires Adobe Acrobat).  The full report contains considerable background information and context.  It includes the raw sampling data for Mirror Lake and water quality comparisons with other studied lakes.

Read the answers to the following Frequently Asked Questions:(requires Adobe Acrobat)

What is the condition of Mirror Lake?
What about the dark and murky bottom waters of the lake?
How does this condition change from spring showers thru the changing of the leaves?
How has the condition changed since CSLAP sampling began on the lake and/or relative to historical values?
How does Mirror Lake compare to other similar lakes (nearby lakes, same lake use, etc.)?
Based on these data, what should be done to improve or maintain Mirror Lake?

About the CSLAP program.

MLWA volunteers conduct periodic dip tests which assess water clarity.  These observations contribute to a body of data that can help assess the health of Mirror Lake over time.

Storm Drain Stenciling is done at least once a year, preferably in the late spring, to draw attention to the fact that street debris flushes directly to Mirror Lake

Doggie bag dispensers help divert pet wastes to appropriate trash removal channels.

MLWA volunteers work with Village and Park District personnel to maintain and improve the inventory and placement of trash receptacles around Mirror Lake.
